Standard-Setting Organization (SSO)
Also known as standard-development organizations (SDOs). An organization that develops and adopts an industry standard, such as:
- An interoperability standard.
- A performance standard.
- A technical standard.
Many SSOs require participants in the standard's development to:
- Disclose any standard-essential patents (SEPs) during the standard's development.
- License any SEPs on fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) or reasonable and non-discriminatory (RAND) terms, also known as a F/RAND licensing commitment.
