What's on Practical Law?
Practical Law may have moderated questions and answers before publication. No answer to a question is legal advice and no lawyer-client relationship is created between the person asking the question and the person answering it. Where appropriate, you should consult your own lawyer for legal advice. Practical Law's employees are not practising solicitors or barristers. The Ask scope and rules apply.

Q:
I act for a client who operates a supermarket and they have received a letter from solicitors making a formal request in accordance with the GDPR that my client discloses any and all information and documentation held relating to their client whom they have named. I expect my client does not have any documents and I wonder for what possible reason they are making the request and what are the possible consequences of my client not holding any information or documents on their client?
