Artificial heart valve patent partially valid and infringed (Patents Court)

In Edwards Lifesciences Corporation and another v Meril GmbH and another [2020] EWHC 2562 (Pat), the first of several trials relating to patents relating to artificial heart valves owned by Edwards Lifesciences asserted against Meril, the Patents Court found that one of the patents in issue was infringed but invalid for obviousness. Although claim 1 of the second patent was held to be invalid, other claims were valid and infringed.
