Queen's Speech 2022: data protection implications

The Queen's Speech has been delivered to both Houses of Parliament, setting out the government's proposed legislative plans for the next session of Parliament, which include introducing a Data Reform Bill and Bill of Rights. The Data Reform Bill is intended to ease the burden of compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR, enable data to be shared more efficiently and update the enforcement powers and accountability of the Information Commissioner's Office. The introduction of a Bill of Rights aims to build upon Brexit and allow UK courts greater flexibility to determine human rights cases without having to adhere to case law determined by the European Court of Human Rights.
